The End of Summer.
Cyntara v8 will soon be celebrating its 3rd month online on the first of September! We thank all of our players for the great memories and patronage. We can only hope to continue bringing a great Cyntara experience to you all. We are very aware of what the end of summer brings to communities - an inevitable decline in player count. I have written extensively on the topic, you can read about it on my Blog Post. This post will address a few common questions and issues.
What's new for Cyntara?
First off, if you have not seen the Roadmaps thread we highly encourage you to read it and post your opinions. Concise roadmaps as to what you as players want to see come to Cyntara in the coming months is the best way for development to continue along its path. This is a great opportunity to share with the staff and community what you want to see come to the server, and the only way we can know what you want is if you share with us.
The roadmaps will get us through until the end of the year, where we plan to release Cyntara v8.1! The tentitive date is on the 20th of December, 2014. While no concrete work has been done for this update, we plan to extend the gameplay for higher levels and open up new pathways for the server's growth. We have no intentions on resetting characters for Cyntara v8.1 - consider it more of an "expansion pack" for Cyntara! You can keep up-to-date on what to expect on the Forum!
Monsters, Mystery, and a new Quest:
Today we have released an update that has introduced two long-awaited monsters, "Ice Miners" and "Mind Flayers!" Both are higher-level based creatures that bring unique skillsets and quests to the server. The "Cursed Ruins" quest can also be found in the quest area! Perhaps the most long-awaited feature has been added to the server, the "1k Area." It can also be found in the quest area - In the near future it will host a few small hidden quests, but nothing more than a huge area of diverse monsters for alternate hunting spots.
These monsters were aimed to be a challenge! The Cyntara staff encourages you to not attempt these creatures alone until a strategy is devised to take them down. A bit of monster information:
Ice Miners: A group of miners enslaved to an ice mine for life. These miners are hostile toward all intruders and are superior cave expeditionists. Ice Miners are led by the Mine Supervisors.
Mind Flayers: Delusional and powerful magicians that act completely irratic and unpredictable. They often write broken riddles in books, to which make little sense to those who are sane. They hold many secrets in their "out-of-your-mind" environment.
Corrupted creatures: All creatures in the Cursed Ruins have been corrupted by a powerful curse. What could be causing such a curse, and can it be lifted?
With this update, the staff is hosting two events! The first event is another "Decorate your House" contest, and another event will be posted shortly by EM Lass.
You can see the House Decoration contest thread Here!
You can see Lass' event thread [not yet created]!
Finally, the Cyntara staff would like to thank you all for playing Cyntara, and we would like to wish you all a prosperous new school year. For those of you that won't be around until winter, you'll have a lot to look forward to!

Cyntara v8 - First month review.
Cyntara v8 has been quite the ride, and it's only been the first month! We've handled everything from small map errors to crash bugs to major optimizations. So many things have been done during the past month, and the news ticker patches only cover a portion of it! We've even hit a huge milestone of over 150 players! Cyntara v8 has subjectively been the most "successful" version of Cyntara in many years. The Cyntara staff has nobody to thank but you guys. We've decided that it's time to discuss some plans for Cyntara and what you can likely expect in the near future.
What's on the way?
First off, we would like to thank everybody that has donated to Cyntara. Your contribution has not only helped recoup some previous losses, it has also been the driving force behind the massive amount of advertising that we've been doing. Advertising is quite expensive, but we're able to afford it thanks to you guys. With that being said, we are going to be expanding the gift shop a bit, adding some special offers, and expanding the platforms to which we accept payments.
No exact details are known, yet. But our goal is to try to find a way to allow anyone to donate that truly wants to do so. Do not worry, a balanced and fun server is still our number one priority here. Your suggestions, even those regarding donor items are taken into high consideration.
With new revenue brings upgrades. Along with expensive advertising, Cyntara is able to afford a more expensive dedicated server plan than it was previously able to afford. We've already been doing research into new dedicated servers and we have found a few that we think will serve our needs best. Our biggest concern is a slight change in latency. We've already spoken with a few players and staff regarding the difference in latency between our current server and the new one that we're highly considering. So far, we've seen a difference of about 20-30ms either less or more between the two dedicated servers. The current dedicated server is located in Chicago, IL. The new dedicated server that we have been looking at is very close to New York. But as previously mentioned, the difference is typically between 20-30ms (higher or lower.) As for European players, in all of the tests I've run they can expect their latency to be about 30ms lower (the lower the better.)
Specific technical specification upgrades may vary. But as of now, every component of the proposed new dedicated servers is far superior to the dedicated server that we are currently using. The biggest benefit to these changes would be guaranteed DDoS attack protection and SSDs. Swapping out a slow, large HDD for an SSD would make the server run much faster. This also includes the dreaded "server save" that has started to take longer and longer to complete. The amount of time it would take the save is undetermined, but we have good reason to believe it would speed up the process significantly.
Cyntara's future isn't all donors and dedicated servers. We are aware that lower levels are in need of more direction upon starting the server. In the near future, we'd like to see a knowledge base available on the website for new players to reference to answer a lot of questions that are so very commonly asked in the Help Channel.
We are also aware that higher levels are in need of some new content. A good amount of the "high-end" content is actually very outdated and some may not be working properly (I'm looking at you, Culex.) Over the years Cyntara has been running, everything has been updated many times over. Quests like the Dark Knight of Vanda and the Demon Task have been neglected simply because players weren't reaching the milestones necessary to complete them. Whether it be a problem with a lack of community or a lack of some other factor, these quests have gone neglected and some don't even have a reward. Our first goal is to revamp (or even complete) these high-end quests and make them not only completable but practical as well. This process shouldn't take too long, and afterward we will be able to focus on brand new content. We already have the beginnings of plans for a few future quests, as well as rewards to these quests.
The summer's young, the future's bright, and there's a lot more Cyntara left to be played!
A few more recent changes and a special look into the future:
With Patch #6, we have introduced a Football (Soccer for US players) field into the map. This will allow us to hold football events for players. This should be a fair event for players of any level.
With Patch #6, we have also introduced new summons for mages! These summons are around the same strength of a Berserk Pyro Element. This will not necessarily make mages any stronger, but give them a variety of summons to choose from depending on the situation they're in. We're proud to announce the summons below:
Finally, in the near future we are excited to expand our staff's support to more than just in-game support. We have been quietly working on Mobile phone integration to the server's chat channels. Mobile users will be denoted in the chat channels in a way similar to: 00:00 Player Name [Mobile]: Hello - This way you will know that they are not available in-game but are open to conversation in the major public chat channels. This will also allow the staff to contact Red in a personal manner to address critical issues as fast as possible.
We regret to inform you that this will likely not be available to normal players as the introduction to the required software is not only time-consuming, but somewhat difficult to grasp. It also leaves a small window of potential abuse. Messages between the mobile platform and the game server are all provided by Cyntara's dedicated server.
We truly hope you have been enjoying Cyntara v8 as much as we have all enjoyed developing and participating in the day-to-day routine of it.
